Mellon Hall Renovations
01 Challenge
Duquesne University's Mellon Hall biology laboratories were in need of various renovations. The building, originally designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1965, could no longer meet expectations for laboratory instruction and the integration of technology. The University wanted to transform Mellon Hall to improve the undergraduate learning environment and the overall student experience.
02 Solution
BHDP was tasked with renovating the General Biology laboratories, associated prep labs, and the departmental offices. We increased student interaction with instructors through custom four-person lab stations, improved viewing angles, acoustics, and learning technology. Upgrades also included improved user comfort with heat and light control as well as a more conducive work setting and added equipment space.
