Clippinger Laboratories
01 Challenge
In a multi-year and multi-phase process, Ohio University set out to expand and renovate the Clippinger Laboratories facility. Originally constructed in 1967, Clippinger Laboratories houses the Departments of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Geography, Geological Sciences, and Physics & Astronomy. The aging infrastructure and outdated facilities required significant upgrades to consolidate science programs across the campus and meet modern research and educational needs.
02 Solution
Collaborating with Ohio University, BHDP began a multi-phase strategic renewal plan to construct a 71,000-SF new chemistry building to the north of the existing structure. The new building houses a significant portion of the chemistry research and teaching labs. Phase II and III focused on renovating the existing research laboratories, teaching labs, and general classrooms within Clippinger. All MEP systems were also replaced entirely with new energy-efficient systems to meet current safety requirements for research laboratories.
