Designing a Small-Format Prototype for Roche Bros.

The planning strategy and conceptual aesthetics of this prototype can be interchanged to create a unique and curated experience at each new location. This prototype complements the brand’s existing core DNA, including the brand’s history and values, while establishing a new identity and experience, emphasizing the concepts of local, community, and curation.

Not Your Average Grocery Experience

Located in a quaint, east coast neighborhood, Brothers Marketplace seeks to evoke the nostalgia of days gone past by layering elements of local heritage with a modern aesthetic. Replacing the town’s beloved Lord’s Department Store, the last remaining "mom and pop" shop in the area, Brothers Marketplace had to fill the shoes of the local landmark.

In paying homage to the original use of the building, Brothers Marketplace features a  retro-style diner and a mural of the original Lord’s store. The concentration on locally sourced foods and products sets Brothers Marketplace apart from standard, large-format supermarkets. Enveloped in an environment that layers warmth, familiarity and craftsmanship, customers and employees alike are inspired to “Eat. Drink. Be… Local.”
