01 Challenge
BHDP was entrusted with two key projects for the UNC Health Rex Neurosciences & Spine Center: converting the former Rex Medical Oncology clinic into a centralized hub for the Neurosurgery and Rehab Clinic, as well as the Rex Pain Management Center. In addition to redesigning these clinical spaces, BHDP was also tasked with creating a new main entrance, strategically designed to direct patients seamlessly to their intended destination within the Neurosciences & Spine Center.
02 Solution
The Pain Management Center was designed with a focus on functionality and patient care. In addition to new examination rooms, the center includes a state-certified outpatient procedure suite, which features a central care team area that monitors four procedure rooms, along with prep and recovery bays. This layout optimizes patient monitoring and staff workflows, ensuring that medical professionals can efficiently manage procedures while prioritizing patient care.

The design not only improves staff efficiency but also contributes to a positive, streamlined experience for both patients and the healthcare team. This project has successfully enhanced both the functionality and experience for patients at the UNC Health Rex North Carolina Neurosciences & Spine Center, creating a more organized, efficient, and inviting environment for all who visit.
Flexible procedure rooms are equipped to accommodate specialized equipment such as the C-arm, while remaining adaptable to a wide range of patient needs.
The redesign included a new main entrance that guides patients directly to their intended destination.
