Holly Springs Hospital Level II NICU
01 Challenge
BHDP was tasked with transforming a portion of an existing labor and delivery suite into a fully equipped Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Rex Holly Springs Hospital. This conversion was essential in enabling the hospital to provide specialized care for infants born with moderate health concerns, a service it had not previously been able to offer.
02 Solution
The redesigned NICU now meets all Level II standards, offering advanced care for newborns requiring additional monitoring and medical attention. Key elements of the project included the creation of the Level II patient room (capable of supporting twins within the same room), Level II space, and support elements inside the nursery and the central nurses' station designed to streamline workflows and ensure continuous, high-quality care.

Before this upgrade, infants needing Level II care had to be transferred to other facilities. By bringing this capability in-house, Rex Holly Springs Hospital can now provide timely, comprehensive care for its newborn patients, reinforcing its role as a critical healthcare provider within the community.

Additional support areas, including a mixing room and a dedicated nursing room, were also incorporated into the design.
