Rehab and Nursing Care Center (RNCC) Kitchen

01 Challenge

BHDP was enlisted to upgrade the commercial kitchen at the UNC Rex Rehab and Nursing Care Center, which had not seen significant updates since its construction in the 1990s. Serving as many as 140 residents daily, the kitchen's aging utilities and ventilation systems were no longer meeting the facility's demands. The existing equipment, including fume hoods, needed to be replaced, presenting an opportunity to rework and modernize the kitchen.

02 Solution

Working within the existing footprint, BHDP designed a comprehensive overhaul that modernized the ventilation system, providing the necessary capacity for new sinks and upgraded fume hoods. The design not only addressed the immediate concerns of functionality but also streamlined equipment workflow, ensuring optimal use of space. The updated layout is both efficient and flexible, offering plenty of storage and a seamless flow for kitchen staff.
